Trump Administration Issues Licenses for Nvidia Chip Going to China
The Commerce Department has begun issuing licenses for Nvidia to send its H20 chip to China, following through on a July promise that marked a big win for Chief Executive Jensen Huang. The agency’s Bureau of Industry and Security has started granting the licenses for the artificial-intelligence chip Nvidia designed specially for the Chinese market to comply with U.S. export restrictions, according to people familiar with the matter. The licenses are some of the only licenses being granted and follow a charm offensive from Huang, who has met with Trump and Chinese officials throughout the year and reversed a ban on H20 exports that the administration imposed in April.
